Jalandhar, September 9

Founder and Director of Kheti Virasat Mission, Umendra Dutt, who has been working in the field of organic farming and raising his voice against the Genetically Modified (GM) crops will be in the city on Sunday to give his views on environment.

Recently, an awareness rally against the genetically modified (GM) sarson was organised, where activists of different NGOs, along with the Kheti Virasat Mission, apprised people of the ill-effects of the GM crops and asked them to sign post cards that would be sent to the Prime Minister.

Also, on every Sunday, a special market “Kudrati Kisan Haat” is set up in Eklavya School with the aim to promoting and propagating organic products to provide people fresh and poison-free food directly from farmers at a reasonable price.

Around 100 volunteers from Jalandhar have become part of this initiative. Every Sunday, the market is held from 12 to 2.

The market has everything that a kitchen needs starting from fresh organic vegetables to fruits and dry grocery including flours, rice, lentils, pulses, spices, nuts, ghee, oils, honey and jaggery.

There are some products in this market that one will not find here, like black rice and some unique masalas and pulses.

The NGO has tied up with farmers of various states and farmers who are into organic farming.
