Educational institutions celebrate Lohri with gusto

JALANDHAR: Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School, Sangal Sohal-Variana, Kapurthala Road, Jalandhar, celebrated Lohri with fanfare. Students were absorbed in the festive spirit.

Seth Hukam Chand school

Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School, Sangal Sohal-Variana, Kapurthala Road, Jalandhar, celebrated Lohri with fanfare. Students were absorbed in the festive spirit. A bonfire was also lit. Principal, teachers and students sang ‘Boliyan’, folks songs immersed in rich cultural folk songs of Punjab. School principal Priyanka Sharma extended warm wishes to students and faculty members on the occasion.

Guru Teg Bahadur school

Principal, staff and students of the Guru Teg Bahadur Public School celebrated Lohri under the patronage of Surjit Singh Cheema , secretary, Guru Teg Bahadur Public School. Students presented cultural items on the occasion. The festival is associated with the harvest of the Rabi crops. Students were apprised of Lohri, giving a brief account of Dulla Bhatti. Dulla Bhatti once rescued girls from Mughal kidnappers and adopted them as his daughters.

Swami Sant Dass Public School

Lohri was celebrated at Swami Sant Dass Public School, Phagwara, with gusto. A special assembly was conducted and the programme commenced with a speech highlighting the importance of the festival. To add fun, students performed cultural items. Principal Anju Mehta, joined the students and extended best wishes to them.

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya

The PG Department of Punjabi of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised ‘Lohri Shagna Di’ under the guidance of Principal Dr Ajay Sareen. The guest of honour was Avtar Henry (junior), MLA, Editor Punjabi Jagran Varinder Walia and Kulwinder Singh Gakhal. The principal encouraged students to celebrate the festival, leaving behind differentiating between the boys and girls. Students of Government Senior Secondary School, Basti Mithu, were also present during the celebrations.

Innocent Hearts College of Education

The NSS Unit of the Innocent Hearts College of Education, Jalandhar, celebrated the ‘National Youth Day and Lohri’. Executive Director Aradhana Bowry, principal Dr Arjinder Singh and faculty members inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the bonfire. Student and teachers gave information about the life sketch of Swami Vivekananda. The NSS unit highlighted the importance of celebrating Lohri. Group dance was performed by the student and teachers. The principal emphasised the need to bring positive change in the society.

Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions

Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions celebrated Lohri on the Loharan campus. The celebrations started by gathering around bonfires, offering sweets, puffed rice, and popcorn into the bonfire and by chanting of ‘mantras’. The programme concluded with a pledge by teachers and students to work for the protection of rights and empowerment of women. Group Director Dr Shailesh Tripathi wished the students a Happy Lohri.

DIPS UE-1 Jalandhar

Lohri was celebrated at the DIPS UE-1 Jalandhar with fanfare. Students and teachers sang a song about the folklore of Punjab. CEO of DIPS Chain of Institutions Monika Mandotra lit the fire and commenced the function. Principal Neelu Bawa encouraged students to value their cultural heritage. Chairman DIPS Chain of Institution Gurbachan Singh conveyed best wishes to the heads and students of DIPS Institutions.
