Jalandhar, July 31

The Election Commission has announced a special summary revision of photo electoral rolls by fixing January 1, 2020, as the qualifying date.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Kulwant Singh said awareness activities would be carried out in the district in connections with the revision of the photo electoral rolls so that residents could be encouraged to come forward and authenticate existing elector details, by giving a xerox copy of one of their documents, including passport, driving licence, Aadhaar card, ration card or any other document approved by the commission.

He said a house-to-house verification would be carried out by BLOs where they would verify information collected from the residents and would also collect information of non-enrolled/dead/ shifted electors.

Singh said the activities, including flagging of persons with disabilities, meetings with political parties and sharing of electoral rolls, recasting of sections, standardisation, capturing of GIS locations of polling stations, preparation of improved ‘nazari naksha’ of polling stations, upgrade of age-cohort wise projected population, rationalisation of polling station and publication of integrated draft electoral, would also be conducted under the revision.

He said a special campaign for receiving claims and objections, disposal of claims, upgrade of data and printing of supplements and final publication of electoral rolls will be done on January 1, 2020.
