DNA samples of rape accused, new-born taken at hospital

Following the order of the court on an application filed by the accused arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a minor girl, DNA samples for profile matching test of the accused and the newly born girl were done at the local Civil Hospital.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Priya Sood had ordered that DNA samples be taken. Bullowal police officer Gautam brought the accused lodged in jail to the hospital. A minor from the nearby village, Hardo Khanpur, had lodged a complaint with the Bullowal police on August 22. She had alleged that a young man, Ajmer Singh alias Lovely, a resident of village Sannal, in Una district of Himachal Pradesh, had raped her repeatedly for following which she allegedly conceived.

The woman police officer investigating the matter, Paramjeet Kaur, said after the above complaint, a case was registered against the accused under Section 376 and 328 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POSCO Act, 2012. According to them, after registering a case, the victim’s medical examination was conducted which confirmed the pregnancy. After registering a case, the accused Ajmer Singh, alias Lovely, was arrested. The victim gave birth to a girl child in the hospital on November 5. The accused had filed an application in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Priya Sood claiming that he was not the father of the said child and urged the court to get DNA profile-matching test conducted to confirm it. Following this, the court ordered the DNA test which was done today. At the Civil Hospital, forensic expert Dr Jaswinder Singh took DNA samples of the child and the accused. The samples would be sent to State Forensic Lab in Kharar where the DNA profiling would be done. According to the police, further action will be taken only after the report is received.
