In a novel initiative under the “Parho Punjab-Parhao Punjab” project of the state’s Education Department to improve education, many teachers of government elementary schools in the district, despite two days’ off due to second Saturday and Sunday, kept the schools open voluntarily and taught children even on the two holidays.
On Saturday, 47 schools were kept open and adding more to it, 132 were open on Sunday. Appreciating the move, District Education Officer, Salvinder Singh Samra and Deputy District Education Officer Dheeraj Vashisht, along with their official teams, visited schools to motivate the teachers and appreciated them for the good work. “Parho Punjab” district coordinator Harminder Singh kept coordinating with officials and the teachers for this novel initiative.
Teachers, during this two-day special initiative, not only used their problem-solving skills to teach the children who were slow in grasping lessons during the regular teaching days but also helped them get over their problems of reading and understanding study material.
District Education Officer Salvinder Singh Samra said the Education Minister said the motive behind the initiative was to adopt non-traditional ways to help the students learn and understand better.
