Despite designated sheds, buses still stop on roads

Buses from Hoshiarpur and Dasuya pass through Garhdiwala town in which a large number of people travel daily. Despite two bus sheds on both sides of the road, these buses stop near the market, which is away from the designated stops, causing inconvenience to residents. Traffic jams have become a common feature in the town.

Cars and rickshaws can be seen parked at the sheds meant for buses. On a number of occasions, residents and shopkeepers have taken up the matter with the administration. Every time, they got assurances. Nothing concrete has been done in this regard. 

Commuter Amandeep said, “We have to wait for buses in the middle of the road. We have tried many times to convince drivers and conductors to stop their busses at the designated stops but they never listen to us.” 

Even the orders issued by the SDM in this regard have failed to make any difference. 

SDM, Dasuya, Himanshu Agarwal said orders were issued in this regard. “The administration and the police were asked to first make people aware of using the bus stop sheds and motivate the drivers to stop the buses at the designated places outside Khalsa College and DAV School, Garhdiwala.”

“We have been creating awareness about it for the past few weeks. An audio message has been recorded and played through the public address system in the town. Vendors have also been requested to remove encroachments from the road. We hope that there will be a positive response and if needed, by the end of October, we will implement the orders strictly,” the SDM added.
