DC exhorts youth to avail benefits of PMEGP

JALANDHAR: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today exhorted the unemployed youth of the district to avail the maximum benefits of the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to open new vistas of self-employment for them.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today exhorted the unemployed youth of the district to avail the maximum benefits of the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to open new vistas of self-employment for them.

The DC said under the scheme, massive steps were being taken to provide new avenues of employment to the unemployed youth. He also said loans were being given to the uneducated and educated youth for starting their own ventures.

Loans to the tune of Rs 25 lakh would be given for setting up own industrial units and Rs 10 lakh for setting up of services unit.

The DC said there was a provision of subsidy as per the various categories. The subsidy for setting up units in urban areas was 15-25 per cent whereas the rate of subsidy for setting up units in rural areas was 25-35 per cent. Sharma added that in rural areas, the scheme was being run by KVIC/ KVIB and in cities it was run by the District Industries Centre.

The DC said the scheme was online and people desirous of taking its benefits could apply either on e-portal PMEGP or www.kviconline.gov.in. He said at the district level, a task force under his chairmanship has been set up to sponsor the applications of the eligible youth to banks.
