DAPO to be incorporated as part of I-Day celebrations

JALANDHAR: Full dress rehearsal for the mega event of Independence Day was held here on Monday at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said the preparation for the event was going on in full swing and every effort would be made to make sure that the day was celebrated with patriotic fervour.

Full dress rehearsal for the mega event of Independence Day was held here on Monday at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said the preparation for the event was going on in full swing and every effort would be made to make sure that the day was celebrated with patriotic fervour.

He also made an announcement that apart from various cultural items, the Independence Day celebrations would also focus on flagship programmes for eradicating drug menace, such as Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO), Buddy and the ‘Tandarust Punjab mission’.

Besides this, dazzling performances in patriotic fervour by students from various educational institutions would also mark the Independence Day celebrations in the city.

The DC further said the mega event would be celebrated in the district in an unsurpassed manner. He also said Jalandhar district would once again uphold the glorious tradition of organising the best function to commemorate this auspicious day. He further said the cultural events to be presented by the students would showcase the patriotic fervour and rich legacy of state besides focusing on the theme of ‘unity in diversity’, which was the very basis of our country.

Prominent among others present on the occasion included, Additional Deputy Commissioners Jitendra Jorwal and Jasbir Singh, Deputy Commissioners of Police Gurmeet Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police D Sudharvizhi, Gurmail Singh and Parminder Singh Bhandall, besides others.
