Cycling event ‘Ride and Run’ on March 10

The District Administration, Hoshiarpur, will organise an event ‘Ride and Run’, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India on March 10. A 120-km professional cycling race will be organised on the occacion.

As many as 150 national and international cyclists from across the country will participate in the event. Deputy Commissioner (DC), Isha Kalia told this during a press conference at the District Administrative Complex yesterday evening.

The DC said: “This will be the first certified road event in the state by the Cycling Federation of India. The district administration is committed to bring Hoshiarpur to the fore as a developed place for the cycling and eco tourism.”

Race Director international cyclist Jagdeep Singh Kahlon was also present on behalf of the Cycling Federation of India.

Talking to mediapersons, the DC said: “The T-shirt for the event was launched by the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh in January in Chandigarh.

She said: “The theme of the event will be ‘Ride Away from Drugs’ so that more and more youth can be connected with the sports.”

“Besides the cycling race, there will be 21,10 and 5-km running event. As many as 12,000 people will participate in the event. The registrations for the event can be made on CFI website, Sewa Kendras, and HDFC bank branches and the website www. hoshiarpurrideandrun. com. The registration will be free for the students of government schools,” added the DC.

The Deputy Commissioner told that Rs 5 lakh would be paid as cash prizes for the cycling event and for the half marathon the amount of prizes will be Rs 2 lakh. The last date for the registration will be March 5. Responding to the questions, the DC said: “The race will start from the outdoor stadium and after passing through Dasuya Road, Hariana, Dholwaha-Janaudi road, Baru, Kothali lag, Behta Ata, Datarpur and Rampur culminate at the starting place.”

Race director international cyclist Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said: “In the biggest ever event in Punjab, national, international cyclists Naman Kapilla, Manjeet Singh and Arvind Panwar will also participate in the event.” After the event Hoshiarpur will be named on the international tourism and cycling map.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kular, IAS (under training) Gautam Jain, Assistant Commissioner (General) Randeep Singh Heer, Abhishek Bhatia, president of Punjab Bikers Club and Deepak Mehra were present.
