Course on physics begins at NIT

A week-long course titled ‘Emerging fields in high energy physics’ organised by Department of Physics at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) commenced here yesterday.

Prof LK Awasthi, Director, NIT, welcomed Prof G Bhattacharyya, acting Director, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, and Prof B Satyanarayana, Scientist (H), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, during the inauguration ceremony.

The coordinators Dr Arvind Kumar and Dr Suneel Dutt, Assistant Professors, the department of physics, provided an insight into the theoretical and experimental aspects of high energy physics along with the emphasis on the link between them.

The course will not only shed light on the recent advances in particle physics but also provide hands-on training experience on many l tools of High Energy Physics.

Prof Awasthi applauded the efforts of Dr Harleen Dahiya (HoD Physics) and the faculty members in setting up a website of the department of physics, which was developed by the members of Physical Science Society.

He highlighted the importance of staying updated and dedicated in the ever-growing technological world. The course witnessed participation of around 70 academicians and researchers from 17 reputed institutes across the country, including IISER Mohali; NIT Kurukhestra; MNIT Jaipur; HPU Shimla; Jammu University; Aligarh Muslim University; Guru Nanak Dev University; Kashmir University and others.
