Couple jumps before train, dies

Phagwara: A couple committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near the Phillaur railway station on Sunday. They were identified as Rohit (20) of Virk village and 15-year-old girl, a student of Class IX of Mau Sahib village. The GRP said the two were in contact with each other for three months. Rohit, who was a blacksmith by profession, came in contact with the girl after she came to stay with her grandparent in Phillaur. The reason behind their suicide is unknown. Rohit’s younger brother said they knew that the couple were in a relationship. However, the girl’s family claimed ignorance. OC

State BJP chief flays Phoolka’s remarks

Phagwara: Punjab BJP president Vijay Sampla has alleged that AAP leader HS Phoolka was claiming that a BJP leader had offered AAP MLAs Rs 15 crore to join the BJP while it was far away from truth as none of the AAP leader was in contact with any BJP leader. He was addressing mediapersons after holding a meeting with police and NHAI officials in connection with early completion of flyovers passing through Phagwara. OC
