Cop dismissed for consuming drugs, another faces action

JALANDHAR: Taking an exemplary action against two cops, who indulged in consumption of drugs, the Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Saturday evening dismissed a police constable for consuming drugs at a house in Mithu Basti locality and recommended exemplary action against a Home Guards volunteer involved with him.

Taking an exemplary action against two cops, who indulged in consumption of drugs, the Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Saturday evening dismissed a police constable for consuming drugs at a house in Mithu Basti locality and recommended exemplary action against a Home Guards volunteer involved with him.

The suspects have been identified as Amarjot of Mohalla Uchi Ghati in Phillaur and Nirmal Singh of New Rattan Nagar. Amarjot was an employee of Punjab Police posted in Basti Bawa Khel Police Station while Nirmal Singh, a Home Guards volunteer, was posted in Police Division Number 2.

Bhullar said acting on a tip-off, a team of Basti Bawa Khel police station led by Sub Inspector Kishan Chand raided a house in Basti Mithu and found both police employees consuming drugs.

He said such immoral conduct by police personnel was unwarranted and undesirable, due to which a severe action had been taken against them. He said both the cops had been booked under Section 27 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
