Jalandhar, November 15

Congress activists on Friday burnt an effigy of the Central Government before the arrival of Jalandhar Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, who was to take part in a demonstration against the Union Government on the issues of inflation, economic slowdown and farmers’ distress.

The workers held a protest in front of the district administrative complex. Even before the MP was to reach and other MLAs were to join in, the workers set the effigy of the Central government on fire, thus ending the protest quickly.

As the MP arrived, the demonstration was nearly over which made him angry. The MP then pulled up both district Congress chiefs – Baldev Singh Dev (urban) and Sukhwinder Lally (rural)— for not coordinating the programme well. “I was to give my speech and tell the people that we were protesting in for their rights. But lack of coordination has diluted our programme and the message could not reach the public well”, he fumed.

‘Centre adopting anti-people policies’

Hoshiarpur: Members of the district Congress committee on Friday held a protest near the district administrative complex against the Central Government for its alleged anti-people policies.

Addressing the protesters, district Congress president Kuldeep Nanda said the party was holding the protest to make people aware of the Central Government’s anti-people policies. He said the BJP had not fulfilled its pre-poll promises. Cabinet Minister Sunder Sham Arora said due to wrong policies of the Modi government, the industry is suffering badly. Political adviser to Chief Minister Sangat Singh Giljian, MLA Pawan Kumar Adia, MLA Dr Raj Kumar, MLA Arun Dogra Mikki, MLA Indu Bala, former MLA Luv Kumar Goldie, Improvement Trust Chairman advocate Rakesh Marwaha, district women’s Congress president Taranjit Kaur Sethi and urban president Mukesh Davar Mintu, besides a number of Congress leaders participated in the rally.
