Jalandhar, September 20

After a blame game that ensued between local Congress MLAs and Sub-Registrar Officer (SRO) Gurdev S Dham over the functioning of his office, Congress MLA Sushil Rinku today visited the tehsil complex and interacted with applicants about problems being faced by them.

Rinku, who had reportedly planned to take on Dham today over his alleged remarks that the Congress MLAs were pressuring him to register even those properties which lack no objection certificates, was perhaps not aware that the SRO had taken leave today. Rinku entered the office this afternoon only to realise that instead it was tehsildar Karandeep Bhullar who was today discharging his duties as the SRO in Dham’s absence.

Rinku enquired about the rush and then had tea with Bhullar, who received him well. Dham, who is also the president of the Tehsildar’s Association, has been serving in Jalandhar as the full-time SRO since May this year when the online land registration process was started.

Congress MLAs, including Rinku, Rajinder Beri and Bawa Henry, had yesterday lodged a complaint against the SRO with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh during their visit to Chandigarh. They demanded that all those registries done during the tenure of Dham be re-investigated as he had reportedly “committed many violations, especially with regard to registering properties without NoCs for some financial considerations”.

Dham has refuted all allegations. He has alleged that he was being embroiled for no reason.
