“The foundation stone for a college in Chabbewal will soon be laid by Chief Minister (CM) Capt Amarinder Singh and it will be like a dream coming true for people of the Chabbewal constituency who had been longing for a government college in the area for long.

“Finance Minister Manpreet Badal has cleared the path for the college by making a budgetary provision for the college in the state Budget,” said Chabbewal MLA Raj Kumar. He was commenting on the allocation of funds for a co-educational college in the constituency. Expressing gratitude to the CM and the Finance Minister for accepting his request for the college, he said it would upgrade the education facilities in the vicinity along with improving accessibility and equitability of higher education. He said it would benefit the poor and the needy people of the Kandi area too and especially girl students who would not have to travel long distance for higher education at a lower cost.

At present, students have to commute to Hoshiarpur if they opt for a government college in the town. He appreciated the announcement of reducing fuel prices of diesel and petrol.

Dr Raj termed the Budget as people-friendly and pro-farmer with the inclusion of loan waiver for landless farm labourers and for families of farmers who committed suicides, free electricity for the farmers and machinery for paddy handling.

‘Smart Villages’, ‘Pendu Awas Yojna’, ‘Mera Kam Mera Maan’, and ‘Make in Punjab’ are the schemes that would help in reviving the economy of the state,” he said.
