City-based lawyer appointed PSLSA member

JALANDHAR: Harleen Kaur, a resident of Green Model Town here, who holds a postgraduate degree in law and has more than 20 years of experience in civil, consumer, criminal and banking-related cases has been appointed as a member of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PSLSA).

Harleen Kaur, a resident of Green Model Town here, who holds a postgraduate degree in law and has more than 20 years of experience in civil, consumer, criminal and banking-related cases has been appointed as a member of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PSLSA).

Talking to The Tribune, Harleen said she had practice law in Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, during her initial years. She has also served as a lawyer in the district courts at Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Mofussil Town.

Besides, she had been actively participating in various social events related to civic issues, conciliation and mediation processes. Harleen said she had been awarded the best NSS voluntary award for 1993-94 for active participation in a mass functional literacy programme acknowledged by the Department of Adult Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh. She had done social work with the Punjab Istri Sabha, Chandigarh, affiliated to the National Federation of Indian Women from 1998-2001 before shifting to Jalandhar.

“I am running an NGO, ‘Samvedna Jagreeti’, working on social and environmental issues. I have conducted various street plays, involving schoolchildren and inculcating eco-friendly habits of protecting environment among them,” Harleen said, adding that she had also been a member of the sexual harassment committee for the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Jalandhar, and CT Institute, Jalandhar, and had worked as a member of the sexual harassment committee relating to the NIT, Hamirpur, (in Himachal Pradesh) too.

Sharing about her journey she said: “I am associated with the District Legal Services Authority, District Courts, Jalandhar, since 2014 and have worked in capacity as amicus curie in juvenile cases and under this capacity have also worked for the release of many children working as child labourers.”

Besides being a member of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jalandhar, I have conducted various informative seminars and lectures for the cause of social and matrimonial issues at various places and had also been a part of the jail visiting team of the DLSA, Jalandhar, she said.

Taking about her appointment as a member of the PSLSA, she said: “The appointment as member of the PSLSA has come as another feather in my cap and I would work for the welfare of society and common man with all my heart, she said.
