Jalandhar, December 6

The charred body of a woman was found in a park inside the surgical complex area early this morning.

Since the body was found in a boxer position (body posture of flexed elbows and knees and clenched fists), the police are assuming that it could be a murder case.

Police Commissioner Praveen Sinha said if a victim was burnt alive or before the body got into the rigor-mortis (stiffening of the joints and muscles of a body a few hours after the death) stage, burn injuries were more than 80 per cent.

“It seems that the girl is minor and has been either sedated or strangulated before the attacker burnt her to erase all proofs. We are presently checking all records of the missing girl to identify her,” said Sinha.

He said the attacker must have used petrol to burn her as there was no smell of kerosene or diesel found on the spot. While the body was completely burnt, the police managed to find a piece of cloth of her blood-soaked shirt.

Though the police reached the spot early in the morning, they had to face problems to keep the onlookers away who had gathered on the spot.

Due to this, some important clues like the impressions of any vehicle or any belongings of the victim were missing from the spot. A case has been registered at the Basti Bawa Khel police station in this regard.
