The seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded with much excitement in the city today. Social media profiles of residents remained flooded with images of their inked fingers.

Expecting least from candidates contesting the elections, voters said: “They were happy to have exercised their right to vote.”

Glitters were added to the election day when city-based celebrities and party candidates showed up at polling booths of their respective localities. Exercising his franchise, in the early hours at the Garhi village, cricketer Harbhajan Singh appealed youth to no let go off an opportunity to contribute to the making of a new government. Surrounded by people in no time, he said: “There is a dearth of sufficient development, education and sports facilities in the state. Hence, youth must cast their votes to elect a candidate who will work for them.”

Master Saleem, who was also roped in by the district administration as the ‘brand ambassador’ of the LS elections, cast his vote from his native Abadpura village. He also motivated residents to exercise their franchise to elect a better government this time. Earlier, he had visited colleges in the city to appeal youth to use their voting right. Candidates in the district too didn’t refrain from convincing people to vote. Congress candidate Chowdhary Santokh Singh arrived with his wife, son and daughter-in-law at the model polling booth in Phillaur to cast his vote and appealed people to vote freely.
