Cart owners who would seldom get work earlier for carrying the goods have no time now a days. They all have one policy to thank to e-way bills. With the introduction of e-way bills, they are busy with loads of work.

After the implementation of the e-way bill system, the e-way bill is generated for the transportation of goods, the value of which is above Rs 50,000.

Under the Goods and Service Tax (GST) regime, all goods or consignments more than Rs 50,000 moving over 10-km from their origin will require prior registration and generation of an e-way bill through the GST network.

The system will facilitate tax authorities to keep the track of all taxable goods and detect potential tax evasion.

Rajesh Minhas, a city-based computer professional, who deals with traders and manufacturers, said he had also seen the surge in the transportation of goods via carts.

“The change has been observed after the system got implemented, as the manufacturers and the traders are now not sending the goods on motorised vehicles.”

Puneet Oberoi, a Chartered Accountant, said under Section 138, it had been said, “The e-way bill will be applicable only on motorised vehicles and not on rickshaws and carts, which is why the usage of this transportation has got increased.”

“They have also increased the price of transportation, even the government is concerned about this,” added Oberoi.”
