The provision of funds in the state’s Budget has cleared the path for establishment of the Tertiary Cancer Care Unit (TCCU) to be built in Hoshiarpur. The foundation stone for the same was laid by the then Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Santosh Chaudhary around five years ago, at Mohalla Fatehgarh.

But its construction was lingering on due to the inadequacy of initiatives in the budgets and non -completion of documentation. During the previous assembly elections, Sunder Sham Arora had promised to get the hospital completed.

According to the information, the Tertiary Cancer Care Unit will be established on the premises of the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur. The paperwork has been completed for the hospital.

The approval to set up Radiotherapy unit has been received from Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai.

Talking to The Tribune, Arora said: “The 50-bedded Tertiary Cancer Care Unit will be built at a cost of Rs 20 crore at the Civil Hospital complex, Hoshiarpur. The three storeyed TCCU will be equipped with ultra-modern facilities.” He said: “The hospital will prove to be a boon for the cancer patients of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Hoshiarpur and nearby districts.”
