Jalandhar: The State Election Commission has announced panchayat bypolls for June 11. ADC (D)-cum-Additional District Election Officer Girish Dayalan said a notification had been issued in this regard. The candidates would be able to file the nominations for nine sarpanches and 47 panches from May 25 to 30. On May 27, the candidates would be able to file the nominations. He also said that the scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done on May 31 and the candidates could withdraw their nomination on June 1. The model code of conduct would come into effect in the villages going to the polls from May 25 to June 13. The voting time would be from 8 am to 4 pm and the counting of votes would begin immediately after the conclusion of the voting. tns

Phagwara: MLA Som Parkash has alleged that Punjab Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was working in a vindictive way and levelling false allegations on him.
