Jalandhar, October 23

Parveen Kamal Gaind (70), an industrialist, has won two gold medals in swimming during the All India Master Competition that was  held in Lucknow from October 18 to 20. The events were 200 m and 400 m.

Parveen, who owns a machine tools unit in the city, said being a businessman himself, he knows that business persons do not give much time to physical exercises and are concerned about their businesses only.

“But I would like to say that our health is a prized possession for us. And we must devote time for our body as if we remain fit, we will be able to do other works properly and also save money, which we end up spending on medicines otherwise,” he said.

He said since childhood, he was into sports.

“I was in Class IX in 1964 when I started swimming. I continued it till 1972, and in those eight years, I took part in state, national, inter-university championships and won several medals,” Parveen added.

In 2016, he had participated in 400 m and 50 m back during a sports event that was held in Hyderabad.

“Sports and games have remained my hobbies. But after 1972, as I got completely involved in the business, sports took a backseat. But it was my well wishers and friends who encouraged me to continue sports and motivated me to take part in such competitions. Later, in 2013, I again started taking part in sports events,” he said.

He said one must spend at least one hour for his or her body.

“Every day, I used to swim for over an hour in a swimming pool. This is how I prepared for the event,” he said.

Not only this, but Parveen also encourages his grandsons and granddaughter to perform swimming. “Swimming is an exercise of lungs and heart too. One must do it,” he said.
