Jalandhar, December 1
Bhogpur, a town of Jalandhar district situated on Delhi-Jammu highway, has been suffering acute traffic congestion. The problem has increased due to inaction by the traffic police.
People park their cars and other vehicles on the highway occupying large stretches of the road. Although the flow of traffic often remains higher on the highway, drivers find it hard to pass through vehicles parked on both sides. “We have taken up the matter with the local police several times, but to no avail. The traffic police have completely failed to restrict people from parking their cars on the highway,” said Balbir Singh, a local resident. “Not only this, buses stop anywhere on the road to get passengers and the bus stand is being used by taxi drivers to park their taxis. Frequent and sudden bus stoppages not only intensify traffic congestion but are also dangerous,” he added.
Bhogpur SHO Bikramjit Singh said he would soon have a meeting with shopkeepers and local bodies to address the issue. —TNS
