BBK DAV college pips Apeejay, wins youth fest

JALANDHAR: Amid allegations of favouritism in the judgement against hosts Apeejay College of Fine Arts, the BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, won the GNDU Inter-Zonal Youth Festival that concluded here on Friday.

Amid allegations of favouritism in the judgement against hosts Apeejay College of Fine Arts, the BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, won the GNDU Inter-Zonal Youth Festival that concluded here on Friday.

There was a neck-and-neck competition between the BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, and Apeejay College. The former bagged 120 points while the host college trailed by only one point.

Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, bagged the second runners-up position with 73 points.

Arguments and complaints ran all through the day outside venues of all events. Faculty members of BBK College alleged that they were surprised to see the judgement was being done with pencils. They said it led to manipulations later.

The faculty members also expressed dissent over the results getting delayed for two hours after the performance last teams.

Meanwhile, the hosts and Guru Nanak Dev University authorities termed the allegations baseless.

While the hosts won the championship trophy in fine arts and music events, BBK College remained the champions in literary, theatre and folk events.

Apeejay College remained second in literary and theatre events while BBK College was declared second in fine arts and music events.

In folk events, the second position was bagged by the Lyallpur Khalsa College team.

On the last day, five events were held, which were fiercely contested between the top two position holders.

In classical dance, the Apeejay team won the first position while BBK DAV stood second.

In western vocal solo, Apeejay College shared the first position with DAV College, Jalandhar, while BBK College bagged the second position along with GNDU University campus.

In play, Apeejay College jointly won the first prize with Khalsa College, Amritsar, while BBK College stood second with Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar.

In western group song, the host college bagged its fourth first prize of the day. BBK College was declared third in this event.

The second position was shared by Guru Nanak Dev University Campus, Amritsar, and DAV College, Jalandhar.

In giddha, the BBK College team won the first prize on the last day. It had to share the top position with Guru Nanak Dev University Campus Amritsar.

KMV College and DAV College shared the second position while RK Arya College, Nawanshahr, stood third.
