Jalandhar, July 16

To take action against pubs and bars opening after 11 pm, and to maintain law and order, Police Commissioner (CP) Praveen Kumar Sinha has arranged to deploy police personnel outside pubs and bars. He ordered PCR teams and in-charges of police divisions to keep an eye on pubs and bars, 15 minutes prior to 11 pm. Earlier too, the Commissioner had instructed all bar, hotel and club owners to follow rules.

In the past week, the police also scrutinised places in the vicinity of these bars and clubs. Most of the clubs were found closed. The CP ordered that police teams would also enter the clubs to check if liquor and beverages were served after 11. He added that, “If the owner of any club doesn’t follow orders, an FIR would be lodged against him.”

The SHO Model Town said now cops would always be deployed in front of the bars and clubs so that they could be closed on time. On Saturday night, the police had closed the market near the railway station and a PCR team was deployed to check the illegal sale of liquor. Sources said liquor and intoxicants were sold illegally at railway stations and bus stands. — TNS
