Bankers flay merger, hold protest

JALANDHAR:On the call given by All India Oriental Bank Employees Federation, bank employees on Thursday held a demonstration in front of the Regional Office, Oriental Bank of Commerce, to protest against the merger of PNB, OBC and UBI.

On the call given by All India Oriental Bank Employees Federation, bank employees on Thursday held a demonstration in front of the Regional Office, Oriental Bank of Commerce, to protest against the merger of PNB, OBC and UBI. 

A large number of employees of other banks also joined the stir to express solidarity with the struggling employees on the call of the United Forum of Bank Employees Union, Jalandhar unit.

Addressing the gathering Amrit Lal, convenor of the Jalandhar unit of bank forum, said the merger of banks was against the interest of employees, customers and the general public. He expressed apprehension that branches would be closed and banking facility to common people would shrink due to the merger of banks. — TNS
