Former Cabinet Minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia on Saturday visited the family of the 27-year-old youth Raja Singh who had committed suicide after falling prey to a travel agent.

Currently, Uttar Pradesh Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Samajwadi Party, Ramoowalia, while paying condolences to the family of the deceased, said the state government should immediately take action against the culprits and Rs 1 crore compensation should be given to the family. If immediate action was not taken, he along with other ministers and family members would sit on a dharna, he added.

“Every year, several Punjabi youths were being deported to other countries illegally and were duped by fraud travel agents. Therefore, it’s high time that the state government should take strict action against these agents. It’s shocking that the government wasn’t serious about the matter and none of the minister had come forward to assure the family members of strict investigation against the culprits.”

Ramoowalia urged all parties to conduct a special cabinet session to discuss the matter. He said, currently the state doesn’t have any department concerned or High Power Committee where these victims could file complaints after being trapped by fraudulant agents.

The victim, Rajan Singh, a resident of Raseela Nagar, Basti Danishmandan, was sent to Russia instead of the USA and was deported.
