Jalandhar, February 11

Hundreds of children gathered at Mohalla Kot Baba Deep Singh today to participate in a rally organised by the district Child Development Project (CDP) Department to protest against domestic violence incidents against women.

While talking to The Tribune, Child Development Project officer Inderjeet Kaur said, “Domestic violence cases against women are quite rampant here in the district. We have received around 435 cases so far and majority of the cases pertains to physical and sexual violence.”

She also informed that the department has attained success to remove the pending cases but still an urgent need was felt to make people more aware to stop such incidents taking place in their neighbourhood.

“Despite making people aware about their role through eye catching advertisements that suggests people to ring a doorbell in case of a domestic violence case reported in their neighbourhood and inform us immediately, we receive almost negligible complaints here in the district. All have a responsibility to prevent this ugly and loathsome facet of society from claiming any more victims,” said Inderjeet kaur. She also informed that without people‘s support, the menace of domestic violence cannot be curbed completely from the society. Along with rally, the department also held a workshop in the Bhargo camp area. —TNS
