District epidemiologist Dr Satish and Dr Preetkamal Singh, along with teams of anti-larvae drive of the Health Department, today surveyed various areas of the city in view of the ongoing dengue prevention drives being carried out in Jalandhar. Some blood samples were also taken in areas where cases of temperature were being reported.

Teams from the Health Department surveyed areas like Kabir Nagar, Ram Nagar, Gazigullah and other areas. Dengue larvae were found at many homes in Kabir Nagar which were destroyed. Medicines were sprayed at spots where water gets accumulated at homes and streets among other places. Blood samples were also taken at the Gazi Gullah area among other areas to check temperature.

District epidemiologist Dr Satish said due to the rise in temperature, coolers were being used by most people which become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. Apart from this, vases, pots, broken utensils among other spots also become breeding places for dengue-causing mosquitoes.

Dr Satish said the Health Department, to spread awareness regarding dengue among people, had started a Friday Dry Day drive as per which every Friday awareness drives were held for the local populace to keep their coolers, vases among other damp or wet spots at home, clean.

Dr Preetkamal Singh said teams of the Health Department had regularly been destroying mosquito larvae, but people should also be aware and not let water accumulate at their dwellings. SI Kulwant Singh Tandi among other employees of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project branch was also present on the occasion.
