The district police today arrested the sixth suspected gang member (with a notorious crime record) involved in the Nehru Garden shootout incident in which Davinder Singh, alias Rinku, was killed. The suspect has been identified as Bhupinder Singh (29), alias Bhinda, of Dhandwar village, Phagwara.

DCP (investigation) Gurmeet Singh said following a tip-off, Bhinda was arrested from Chintapurni road, Hoshiarpur.

He said: “So far, six of the seven accused involved in the murder case of Davinder have been arrested. Bhinda was one of the gang members who along with Gopi (main accused) and five of his accomplices opened fire at Shehra brothers while they were sitting at their shop on the Nehru Garden road, on February 5.”

The DCP said: “During preliminary investigation, it was found that Bhinda has already been facing a criminal case registered against him in Police Division No. 6. He was working as a gym trainer and holds a diploma in civil engineering.

The police said special investigation teams that were constituted for nabbing the culprits were searching for the seventh accused Manik Sharma. He would be arrested soon.

The police said a case under Sections 302, 307, 324, 148, 149, 109 and 120-B of the IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act has been registered against him. He has been sent to a two-day police remand.

The police claim that Gopi had a personal rivalry with Davinder since 2012 and he, along with his accomplices, executed the plan to take revenge from him.
