Jalandhar, May 19

Following the lodging of an FIR against Dalit BJP leader Sheetal Angural along with nine of his accomplice for using abusive language against Harvinder Kaur, alas Minty on a social media site, Angural too has demanded a case to be registered under the SC/ST Act against Minty for making derogatory remarks against the Valmiki community.

Minty, in a press release on Thursday, had asked the Sampla family as to why leaving Dalit boys, Ashu’s sister Manu got married to a Brahmin boy. While addressing his supporters today, Angural demanded a case to be lodged under the SC/ST Act against Minty for blowing the caste issue. “Why can’t an Scheduled Caste girl get married to a general category boy? Who has given her the right to discuss personal matters of the Sampla family on social media platforms,” asked Angural. He further slammed Jalandhar Police Commissioner Praveen Sinha for playing in the hands of the Congress government.

The Dalit leader has demanded a case to be registered under the SC/ST Act against Minty and threatened to hold protests and block roads and traffic in the city, if the police failed to do so.

Earlier in the day, the city police deployed huge force in the Basti areas to prevent any communal clashes following the lodging of an FIR against Angural. As soon as the police reached there, Sheetal Angural anticipating his arrest came out and went to the police. However, he was told that the police had not come to arrest him, but to prevent any clashes in the area.

When contacted, Commissioner Praveen Sinha said though a case had been registered against Angural amongst the nine accused, they could not be arrested as ‘the police was waiting for a formal report from the social media website’. “Only when we have authentic evidence against Sheetal Angural, we will arrest him. As far as filing a case under SC/ST Act against Minty is concerned, it will be done after investigating the matter,” said Sinha.
