Admn spreads awareness about digital literacy

JALANDHAR: The Central government and the Police Commissionerate, Jalandhar, organised a ‘Digi Dhan Mela’ at the CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur, today which was inaugurated by Union Minister of State Gen VK Singh.

The Central government and the Police Commissionerate, Jalandhar, organised a ‘Digi Dhan Mela’ at the CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur, today which was inaugurated by Union Minister of State Gen VK Singh. It was aimed at spreading digital financial literacy among the public.

The mela had more than 30 stalls, accommodating e-Wallet and m-Wallet services, agricultural seed suppliers, handlooms, UID, public distribution system, Girijan Cooperative Corporation, banks including SBI, IDBI, Central Bank, HDFC, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, financial institutions, telecom companies, mobile associations, accessory store houses, Khadi Board, Markfed, Verka and other departments.

“Apart from spreading literacy, we intended that some transactions should happen on the day. The day-long event aimed at familiarising people with various digital payment systems including mobile wallets,” said DC Varinder Kumar Sharma. He said participants interacted with banks and other stakeholders to learn digital transaction methods and about the required app downloads and technical advancements.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Gen VK Singh said cashless transactions would benefit all including small vendors. He said, “The campaign aims to sensitise merchants and vendors on the use of EPS. There will be no need for the people to visit banks every time as the Centre is making efforts to shift the focus towards digital payment mode. The event has been of great impact as it sensitised people about digital payment system and its advantages. It will immensely benefit people.”

Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh; Manbir Singh, managing director and Harpreet Singh, vice-chairman, CT Group of Institutions also attended the event.
