Admn identifies 15 new sand mines in district

JALANDHAR: To ease out the supply of sand in the district, 15 new mines have been identified by the district administration. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today said the district administration had adopted a twin action policy under which a stern action had been taken against illegal mining besides ensuring a proper supply for the common people.

To ease out the supply of sand in the district, 15 new mines have been identified by the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today said the district administration had adopted a twin action policy under which a stern action had been taken against illegal mining besides ensuring a proper supply for the common people. He said the newly identified mines included Baupur, Chahula, Khairalpur , Youssefpur and Burrewal. Environment clearances have also been obtained for these mines, he said.

The Deputy Commissioner also made it clear that the police would provide security and protection to the legal digging of sand. Besides, keeping in view the upcoming monsoon season, he also asked officials of the Irrigation Department to remain vigil about the security of the Dhushi bandh across the banks of the Sutlej and formation of a joint action committee with officials of the department dealing with trade and industries.

Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar (rural) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the teams comprising civil and police officials were working tirelessly to save the natural resources. Besides, the timing for digging of sand across the district has been fixed from 6 am to 7 pm, which would be implemented from April 1.
