Jalandhar, June 24

In order to ensure minimum hindrance to the people during protests, the administration has designated eight places in the district for peaceful protests.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today said these places had been carefully selected to ensure that normal life was not at all disturbed during the protests by political parties or other organisations.

He said these places included PUDA ground opposite tehsil complex, Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall, Burlton Park, Improvement Trust ground, Kartarpur, grain market, Bhogpur, on the west side of Kapurthala road, Nakodar, grain market Saifawala village, (Phillaur) and Nagar Panchayat Complex, Shahkot.

The Deputy Commissioner said these places had been designated for the purpose of peaceful protest with several riders.

He added that the protesters would have to seek prior permission from the Commissioner of Police or the Sub-Divisional Magistrate concerned, whichever was applicable, before the protest.

Likewise, Sharma said no weapon, including knives, lathis or others would be allowed during the protest.

The Deputy Commissioner added that the organisers of the protest would have to give an undertaking to ensure the peaceful march and protest with marshals at each relevant junction.

He said the organisers/protesters would be responsible for any loss to human life or property for any unlawful act during the protest.

Sharma said these orders were being issued in pursuance of the circular issued by the Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Punjab, and would be applicable for two months.
