96 per cent paddy lifted in dist, says DC

JALANDHAR: In consonance of the directions of the state government to ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement of paddy, the district administration has claimed that till now it has lifted 96 per cent of procured paddy and made a payment worth Rs 1536.

In consonance of the directions of the state government to ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement of paddy, the district administration has claimed that till now it has lifted 96 per cent of procured paddy and made a payment worth Rs 1536.47 crore to farmers for their produce.

Divulging details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today said since the starting of the procurement of grains in the district, 9,40,840 metric tonne paddy has arrived in mandis across the district, out of which 9,40,711 metric tonne has been purchased by various agencies. Meanwhile, 5,486 metric tonne of paddy was arrived in the district on Wednesday and all the arrived stock was purchased by various procurement agencies.

Adhering by the state government guidelines to lift the paddy within 48 hours of its purchase, the procurement agencies have, until now, lifted 8,95,264 metric tonne of paddy out of total of 9,40,711 metric tonne of grains procured. Likewise, Deputy Commissioner said the district administration had till now made a payment of Rs 1,536.47 crore to the farmers for their produce, which was roughly 90 per cent of the total payment of the farmers.
