800 e-rickshaws on duty to ferry pilgrims to Ber Sahib

To facilitate the huge footfall here in view of people coming to visit the digital museum and light and sound show, the Punjab Government will deploy 800 e-rickshaws from November 1. The rickshaws will help take pilgrims from parking lots to the Gurdwara Ber Sahib.

At a meeting with the councillors and MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda and SSP Satinder Singh said the district administration would impose minimum restrictions on the pilgrims and residents of the city.

They said from November 1 onwards all vehicles to coming to the holy city would be stopped at nine parking points and 300 mini buses would be deployed to help bring the pilgrims to the nearby parking sites of Gurdwara Ber Sahib from where they would have to walk barefoot to teach the Gurdwara. Aged pilgrims would be provided the services of e-rickshaws till the Gurdwara.

Replying on a issue raised by some councillors, the DC said special passes would be issued to the city residents in case of any emergency. The DC has also urged the residents to stop all kinds of constructions to ensure clean atmosphere. Also, Municipal Council would be responsible to implement these orders.

SSP Satinder Singh said two local policemen would be deployed at all important traffic points.

Prominent persons were present on the occasion, including ADC Rahul Chabha, SP Tejbir Singh, SDM Dr Charumita, OSD Navneet Kaur Bal, President MC Ashok Mogla.
