Hoshiarpur, January 15

The local child protection unit raided markets of the city to curb child labour and children’s begging on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal today.

During the raid, seven children were found begging and selling balloons and other goods. They were presented before the Child Welfare Committee, where the person accompanying the children was warned that he should present the parents of the children before the committee on Tuesday, failing which he and the children’s parents would be prosecuted. After the warning, the children and the person were released.

Chairman of the committee, Dr Ashwini Juneja, and members Arvind Sharma and Varinder Kumar Chopra said it was necessary to identify such children and send them to school to be educated. The effort was being made under the campaign as the government schools provided uniforms, books and food free of cost to children.

DPO Kuldeep Singh, DCPO Harpreet Kaur, Punit, Pooja, Ankur and ASI Satnam were present on the occasion.
