6 get jail, fine for bid to murder

Hoshiarpur: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge RK Jain has given varying jail terms while convicting six accused in a case of assault and fatal attack in Garhidiwala town in March 2012. The court sentenced Shekhar, Jatinder Kumar, alias Sabi, Ravi and Kashmir Kumar, all residents of Garhdiwala, to pay a fine of Rs 7,000 each along with imprisonment of 7 years each. The failure to pay fine would lead to six months’ additional imprisonment. The convicts Binder Pal and Ravinder Kumar, alias Sonu, have been sentenced to jail for three years and cash fine of Rs 3,750 each. Both convicts will have to undergo 15 additional days in prison if they do not pay the fine. On 27 March 2012, the six accused, Bindar Pal, Shekhar, Jatinder Kumar, Ravi, Kashmir Kumar and Ravinder Kumar, were booked on the complaint of Karandeep Singh, a resident of ward No. 6 of the Gardiwala town under Section 307, 326 and 324 of the IPC.

Woman, son jailed, fined for drug smuggling

Hoshiarpur: Additional District and Sessions Judge SK Singla gave varying terms of imprisonment for drug peddling to Karnail Kaur and her son Kulwinder Singh here today. The court sentenced Kulwinder Singh of Rajoval to four months of jail in a 100-gram narcotics recovery case and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. In the case of recovery of 10 gm of smack from his mother Karnail Kaur, the court sentenced her of two-month imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000. The police of Thana Bulowall had stopped and searched the scooter rider mother Karnail Kaur and her son Kulwinder Singh on April 8, 2014. Recovering intoxicant powder and smack from them, the police had arrested both Kulwinder Singh and Karnail Kaur by booking them under the NDPS Act. OC
