550 cartons of illicit liquor seized

Jalandhar: Bhargava Camp police have seized 550 cartons of illicit liquor from Ankit, Mani and Vinay. The liquor was seized when the accused and the driver of the truck were unloading the cartons at Kotmohalla locality, Basti Sheikh. The police have registered a case under the Excise Act. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot. TNS

Lawyers suspend work

Phagwara: The lawyers of Phagwara, belonging to the Bar Association, headed by president Harminder Syal, boycotted work in view of the Amritsar train tragedy on Saturday. A two-minute silence was observed for the peace of the departed souls. Lawyers Lalit Chopra, Anita Kaura, Shardha Ram, Munish Sareen, RK Bhatia and Gurdev Singh demanded a high-level probe in the incident. OC
