524 drug peddlers arrested this year

PHILLAUR: The Jalandhar rural police have arrested 524 drug peddlers, including 47 women, who were involved in 419 cases and seized a huge quantity of drugs from their possession till June 30 this year.

The Jalandhar rural police have arrested 524 drug peddlers, including 47 women, who were involved in 419 cases and seized a huge quantity of drugs from their possession till June 30 this year. This was stated by SSP (rural) Navjot Singh Mahal here yesterday.

He said the police seized 23.5 kg of opium; 867.6 kg of poppy husk; 23.5 kg of heroin; 50 gm of smack, 5,962 intoxicating injections; 57,792 intoxicating tablets; 22,611 capsules, 28.950 kg of charas; and 32.1 kg of ganja from their possession.

“The police today arrested six drug peddlers in Ganna Pind, near Phillaur, and recovered 5 gm of heroin and 15 bottles of illicit liquor from them. Separate cases under the NDPS and Excise Act have been registered,” the SSP said.
