Five years since the service revolver of slain ASI Gurdev Singh had been snatched, the Jalandhar Rural Police today found it from a gang of six robbers arrested from near Phillaur.

ASI Gurdev Singh was gunned down by drug smugglers outside the Haveli resort on the Jalandhar-Phagwara road on the night of April 1, 2013, when he was trying to chase them. The ASI was unarmed at that time. The incident of snatching of his .38 bore revolver had taken place on July 22, 2012, and a case regarding the matter was registered at the Sultanpur Lodhi police station.

The police had arrested four persons, including Ravi Kumar of Sagnowal Phillaur, Paramdeep Singh of Chak Kalan in Nakodar, Manoj Kumar Mauji and Suraj, both of Phillaur, on May 16.

Other than the revolver, the police also recovered sharp-edged weapons from them. After their arrest, the cops also apprehended two of their accomplices, including Taranvir Singh, of Model House, Jalandhar, on May 17 and another Gurvinder Singh, alias Gora, a day after. They have all been booked under Sections 379-B, 392, 395 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rural Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the gang had confessed to having committed 11 robberies. Suraj was reportedly involved in the looting of a potato truck at gunpoint in Phillaur in 2010. He was declared a proclaimed offender in the case as he had jumped his bail.
