479 held under NDPS Act since March: SSP

The Jalandhar Rural Police claimed to have confiscated drugs worth Rs 15 crore in the last three months in its drive against drug smugglers.

According to the police data, during the period of March 16 to June 17 this year, 438 cases under various sections of the NDPS Act have been registered and 479 accused have been arrested. A recovery of 19 kg and 174 gm of opium; 1,010 kg and 950 gm of poppy husk; 2 kg and 153 gm of heroin; 31 kg and 726 gm of intoxicant power; 1 kg and 225 gm of ganja; 1,635 injections, 6,978 tablets and 13,245 capsules have been recovered having a worth of nearly Rs 15 crore in the international market.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today said the recoveries were made after the district police started a special drive to check drug peddling in the district. He said for this, special teams of officers were constituted who had been monitoring this drive regularly.
