The police have filed an FIR of triple murder against unknown persons in the case of the death of a retired soldier and his two daughters in the village of Mukerian nearly three years ago.

The development came in the wake of an inquiry conducted after orders of the Punjab Haryana High Court to the district police for reinvestigation in the matter. Earlier, the police had recorded proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in the case.

The Mukerian police had recovered the blood-soaked bodies of retired armyman Gurdial Singh and his two daughters on November 24, 2014. At that time, it was said that Gurdial Singh had committed suicide by shooting himself after shooting his daughters.

It was recorded by the police that Jashanpreet Kaur, elderly girl, who was 16-year-old at that time, was born disabled and was confined to bed. The other girl, Jaganit Kaur, whose age at that time was 13 years, was in the VIIth grade in Cambridge School, Dasuya. Gurdial Singh’s wife had gone to Gurdaspur to give medicine to her mother. At the time of the incident, there was no one except the three in the house.

The police had got the information about the incident through a phone call. The police had also recovered two suicide notes from the incident site. Based on the statements in suicide notes, the police had recorded proceedings under Section 174 in this regard. Gudial’s mother Palvinder Kaur, wife of Kapoor Singh, had been pleading that her son, Gurdial Singh, and both his daughters were killed. When she was not heard by the police, Palvinder Kaur filed a petition in this regard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Acting on this, the court had ordered the district police chief to investigate the matter. After this, the SPD investigated the matter on the orders of the SSP. Following this, based on the inquiry report, the Mukerian police filed an FIR under Section 302 of the IPC and Arms Act against the unknown murderers.
