3 women among six arrested with illicit liquor

JALANDHAR: Six persons, including three women, were nabbed with 217 bottles (1,62,750 ml) of liquor by the Jalandhar (rural) police on Saturday.

Six persons, including three women, were nabbed with 217 bottles (1,62,750 ml) of liquor by the Jalandhar (rural) police on Saturday. All accused were booked under Section 61 of the Excise Act for selling liquor brewed in their own homes.

The persons against whom the case has been registered include Soma, Usha and Shindo as well as three men Sulakhan, Dilawar and Rampal. They were nabbed with over 30 liquor bottles each. All accused are the residents of Ganna Pind and were brewing liquor at their homes.

SSP (rural) Jalandhar, Navjot Mahal, said a police patrol party on a tip-off, nabbed Soma, wife of Rampal, at Ganna Pind, Phillaur, with 40 bottles of liquor on Saturday.

In another tip-off, Usha, wife of Jasbir Chand, alias Mani, was nabbed from the village with 32 bottles of illicit liquor. Shindo was nabbed from Ganna Pind with 35 bottles of illicit liquor.

Sulakhan was nabbed with 35 bottles and Dilawar with 40 bottles of illicit liquor. Meanwhile, Rampal was nabbed with 35 bottles of liquor at Ganna Pind. The police said they will be presented in the court on Sunday.
