3 travel agents booked for operating illegally

In a major crackdown on illegal travel agents around the local bus stand, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today checked 25 offices of travel agents and registered cases against three, who were operating illegally.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said, “The police had received a tip-off that number of illegal travel agents operating in the vicinity of the bus stand were duping people on the pretext of green pastures abroad.”

“The police had vital information that several such travel agents opened their shops under the garb of IELTS training institutes, ticketing agencies, educational consultancy services and others,” the CP added.

In order to nail such illegal travel agents, joint teams of officials from the Police Department and the civil administration were constituted to raid their offices, the CP said.

“Teams comprising Assistant Commissioners of Police have checked offices of 25 travel agents. Of these, three have been found operating illegally,” the CP added.

The cops registered cases against the three travel agents at the Police Division No. 6 under Sections 406, 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, 12 Passport Act 1967 and 13 Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act 2014, the CP said.

Those booked include Mohit Minhas, was running Next Level IELTS Institute, Satinderpal Singh, was running IELTS Guru IELTS Institute, and Ravinder Kumar, was running IELTS Institute under the name of Bands Solution, the CP added.

Two mobile phones and Rs 54,000 in cash was recovered from Mohit whereas one mobile and Rs 1.28 lakh in cash was recovered from Satinderpal Singh, the CP said.
