3 challaned for noise pollution

JALANDHAR: To check noise pollution in the district under the Tandarust Punjab mission, a joint team of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and traffic police, Jalandhar, on Wednesday issued challans to three vehicles for using multi- tone horns/pressure horns and cracker sound-emitting silencers.

To check noise pollution in the district under the Tandarust Punjab mission, a joint team of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and traffic police, Jalandhar, on Wednesday issued challans to three vehicles for using multi- tone horns/pressure horns and cracker sound-emitting silencers.

A team comprising Assistant Environmental Engineer (AEE) Jatinder Kumar and JEE Varun Kumar, along with a team of the traffic police, led by Assistant Sub Inspector Traffic Police (ASI) Harpreet Singh, checked around 40 vehicles, including heavy vehicles (30) and Royal Enfield Motor cycles (10) at the Guru Ravidass Chowk. On the occasion, owner of a heavy vehicle and two Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles were issued challans for violation of the noise pollution norms.

The team also issued show-cause notices under Section 31-A of the Air Act, 1981, to violators. The team appealed to owners of heavy and light vehicles to stop using pressure horns.
