200 varieties displayed at flower show in Cantt

An annual flower show and garden competition was organised by the Cantonment Board, Jalandhar, and Station Headquarters Vajra Corps here today. Maj Gen Sanjeev Bajaj, General Officer Commanding, Jalandhar sub-area, inaugurated the event which was attended by senior Army and civil dignitaries and a large number of people from Jalandhar City and Cantonment.

The event is being held at Jawahar Garden for the past more than 75 years. The annual flower show has inspired residents of the cantonment and city areas to take a greater interest in flowers and environment. This year, nearly 200 varieties of flowers and plants were displayed at the competition. The garden show was divided into two groups. First group was open for all, whereas the second group was open for serving personnel and families only. Gardens of various educational institutes, individuals, public gardens and regimental gardens were considered in the competition. Rangoli and painting competitions were organised for children. The children displayed tremendous enthusiasm, talent and creativity during the competition.

Brig RPS Sandhu, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Jalandhar sub-area and President, Cantonment Board, lauded the interest of all participants and gave away the prizes. In addition to individual prizes, rolling trophies were also awarded for the best maintained private garden and the best arboricultural project.
