2 of family killed, 2 hurt in accident

JALANDHAR: Two members of a family, including a citizen of the United States of America, were killed, while two were injured after their car collided with an oil tanker on the Adampur-Hoshiarpur road close to the Khuradpur canal near Adampur early this morning.

Two members of a family, including a citizen of the United States of America, were killed, while two were injured after their car collided with an oil tanker on the Adampur-Hoshiarpur road close to the Khuradpur canal near Adampur early this morning.

The deceased were identified as Mela Singh (65), a US citizen, and his daughter-in-law Amandeep Kaur (29), hailing from Begowal. The injured members of the family were identified as Jasbir Kaur (63), wife of Mela Singh, and Lakhwinder Singh (35), son of Mela Singh.

As per information, the family was travelling to Chandigarh from Begowal to get Jasbir Kaur’s medical examination done for the purpose of the US visa. They met with the accident when they reached close to the Khuradpur canal. The accident was so severe that the car fell into the canal. Mela Singh and Amandeep Kaur died on spot. The injured were admitted to a private hospital in Adampur.

Speaking to Jalandhar Tribune, Adampur SHO Hargurdev Singh said, “The oil tanker driver managed to escape from the place.” The police said an FIR had been registered under Section 304-A, 279, 337 and 338 of the IPC against the tanker driver.
