The Kapurthala Police have arrested two persons, who are reportedly the members of the Satkar Committee that had thrashed three granthis in Sultanpur Lodhi last month.

Sukhjit Singh Khosa and Gurmeet Singh Sodhi of Kabirpur were arrested by a police party of the CIA staff Kapurthala and Talwandi Chaudhrian police during a raid held at a village near Malerkotla. Both were produced in the Sultanpur Lodhi Court which sent to three days police remand.

The Kapurthala police had slapped an attempt to murder, kidnapping and other charges on 15 persons on April 23. A case under Sections 307, 382, 365, 342, 295 A, 406, 148, 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the head of Satkar Committee, Lohian Khas, and others.

Victim granthis Mahinder Singh of Dalowal village, Gurmail Singh and Gurnam Singh, residents of Khwaspur village in Tarn Taran, told the police that on March 27, they had gone to conduct Akhand Path at some religious place in Sidhupur village near Shahkot.

The victims alleged that on March 29, when they were returning home, three persons kidnapped and took them to an isolated place in Pamma village near Sultanpur Lodhi where they were brutally beaten up by over 12 persons with bats on the plea that the Akhand Path cannot be conducted at an ancestral place. The kidnappers also videographed the entire thrashing episode and later uploaded it in the Facebook and other social networking sites.
