19 rounded up during house-to-house checks

While six persons had been rounded up during the rural police’s first anti-drug house-to-house search operation across Ganna Pind a few days ago, the Jalandhar rural police rounded up as many as 19 persons during ‘house-to-house’ checks at Bajuha Khurd and Bajuha Kalan villages today.

Jalandhar SSP (rural) Navjot Singh Mahal said during the search operation, which continued for over two hours, the entire village was checked by 150 police personnel, led by Superintendent of Police RPS Sandhu, Vatsala Gupta, DSP Makhan Singh, DSP Ajay Singh and SHOs Nakodar Sadar, Nakodar City and Nurmahal.

He said during the search operation, an anti-sabotage team and a dog squad accompanied the force and conducted thorough checking of every house in the village.

Mahal said the police sealed all entry points in the village at 5.30 am and conducted the operation which lasted till 7:30 am.

The SSP said special thrust was laid on the houses of suspected drug peddlers, for which special raids were made.

He said during checks, the teams also had interactions with local residents.

The SSP said the residents also assured full support and cooperation to the police for the noble cause. Meanwhile, he said during the raid, 19 persons were apprehended.

The SSP said while 50 gm of heroin was found with two persons during the raids, a syringe was found with another. However, no one had been arrested.

“Since both persons with whom drugs were found are drug users, no arrest has been made. All those found to be drug dependents during the raid will be put on OOAT treatment,” the SSP said.

Notably of the six persons rounded during the Ganna Pind raids by the police, three had been arrested for possession of heroin.
